Helena Kean

Helena Kean – Helena Kean BA. (Hons) mezzo-soprano Helena began her professional training after a visit to Bari in Southern Italy, where she was invited to join the Bari choir for BBC broadcasts, in which her Italian host participated. After work experience with Opera North, and two years of postgraduate study at the Conservatoire, Helena trained with contralto and renowned teacher Jean Allister.

He now works with voice trainer Mary Seaford in Lancashire and specializes in classical song recital performance: “I want to revive interest in the rich composition of classical songs from around the world and bring a new audience to classical music with imaginative programs.” Helena has just released an album Laughter and her first tears.

Helena has a B.A.  (Hons) degree and an adult teaching certificate.  She gives workshops on vocal techniques and music appreciation for beginners: ‘Breaking the sound barrier’ and works as a consultant with singers of all styles and ages, who wishes to develop and improve their breathing and vocal techniques. 

She has lived, worked and traveled extensively in various European countries, developing her language skills and researching the cultural aspects and songs perfomed in her recitals.  Helena prepares her own translations, in addition to extensive program notes and research notes for each recital.  She was born in Oldham, Lancashire and continues to live in the North West of England.
